BRIDGEWAY
This program provides housing and education for pregnant
teens.
It teaches them self-sufficiency and life skills. |

CLEMENTS COMMUNITY CENTER
The Legacy Foundation contributes to on going programs at the seniors' activity center, which provides educational, wellness and safety awareness classes, recreational
activities, counseling and health screening for thousands of seniors.
Land adjacent to the center was donated to the Legacy by the Chrysler Foundation for additional parking at the centers. |
JEFFCO ACTION CENTER
This non-profit
organization was formed in 1968 whose mission is to provide
immediate response to basic human needs and to promote pathways to
self-sufficiency. Every day, Jeffco Action Center gives away almost
two tons of food, helps 120 households, houses 18-20 people in
their homeless shelter, and gives out hundreds of articles of
clothing. See their nice note to us!
CASA
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) finds and trains volunteers
who are appointed by a juvenile judge to serve as an independent
voice for abused and neglected children.
CITY OF LAKEWOOD
YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS

The City provides many scholarships to young children of
low-income families.
The scholarships support preschool,
before- and after-school care, and enrichment opportunities. |
HELPING
HEARTS & HANDS
This organization provides funding for individuals and families
who have a special need that threatens the self-sufficiency of the
household which cannot be resolved through their own resources or
met elsewhere.
LAKEWOOD HORSE
PATROL FUND

The Horse Patrol uses mounted volunteers to patrol Lakewood
parks. The volunteers are First Aid and CPR trained, provide
trail maps and directions to park users, encourage dog owners to
keep their pets on leashes and clean up after them, and report any
crimes or acts of vandalism to the police. This group
organized a fund-raiser to purchase a sling that could be used for
emergency rescue of livestock, and the Legacy Foundation contributed
to their efforts.

LAKEWOOD SYMPHONY
ORCHESTRA
This organization has been providing affordable, quality orchestral
music performances for the Lakewood community since 1977.

THREE GENERATIONS
SCULPTURE
We administered the funds for the purchase of Three
Generations, which is on permanent display at the Lakewood
Heritage Center.

Colorado Sports for the
Physically Challenged
This week long summer camp is designed for physically disabled youth
grades 1-12. The all volunteer staff works with these special
children so they can enjoy activities such as golf, swimming,
basketball, soccer, tennis, softball, hand cycling, and even
wheelchair rugby.
“E”
PROJECT
This is a charitable organization that provides opportunities to individuals in the community to participate in performing, visual, and literary arts to free of charge. All ages are welcome to audition for onstage productions, as well as attend performing arts educational classes and workshops. In its first year in 2006, “E” Project produced ten adult theatrical productions and four Teens OnStage productions.
Jefferson County District
Attorney’s Office– CSOII Program
For over 10
years, the Jeffco DA’s Office has been working to convict Child Sex
Offenders who prey on children over the internet. They are also
working to educate young children about the dangers of strangers on
the internet with Safety Stickers, Safety Coloring Books, and a
mascot to help get the message across.

Attorney’s Office
– CASE Partnership
The Jeffco DA’s CASE program stands for “Crime Against Senior Exploitation.” Through informative seminars, older adults are educated about identity theft and other forms of financial exploitation. During presentations, attendees are giving “Power Against Fraud” Handbooks, as well as neck wallets for carrying around vital information.
Lakewood London Connection
Lakewood police
volunteers work with law enforcement agencies in London whereby
severely disabled children from London travel to Lakewood, staying
with Lakewood families to experience some of the culture of the
United States. Grant monies provide transportation, lodging, and
meals, hosting groups to ski at the National Sports Center for the
Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado. The children and their families
pay for their own travel costs, while this program covers additional
expenses incurred here. This is a once in a lifetime experience fro
these children.
Lutheran Chorale
Each year, the Lutheran Chorale enhances the community by performing
Messiah Sing-Ins at the beginning of December at the Lakewood
Cultural Center. The chorale is made up of over 90 Lakewood high
school students, and performs in collaboration with the Lakewood
Symphony Orchestra.
Youth Leadership Jefferson
County
This program, a part of the West Chamber Foundation, provides
opportunities for high school students aspiring to be community
leaders. The students study leadership through interaction with
business professionals in the categories of public safety/taking
charge, human services/values, news media/communications,
justice/character, education/learning & leadership styles, and
government/conflict resolution.
CAMP PAHA
Camp PAHA provides recreational, educational, and therapeutic
opportunities for children with disabilities. This seven-week
summer camp is a collaborative effort between the City of Lakewood's
RISE Above! program and the Jefferson County Schools.

GRANTS
The Lakewood Link/O’Connell
Middle School
For the 2006-07 school year, O’Connell Middle School partnered
with the Lakewood Link Rec Center to provide students the
opportunity to engage in before and after school activities. With
78% of O’Connell students of free and reduced lunch, this
partnership provides community participation and fun activities
for these youth such as sports and drama programs.
Wellspring Senior Foundation
Eaton Terrace
Residences and Eaton Terrace II Assisted Living Center were
provided with CCTV Electronic Magnifiers for use by low-vision
residents.
Leadership Jefferson County
This program is part of the West Chamber Foundation, and is
comprised of 25 emerging leaders of Jeffco. For 2006, the LJC class
chose to make playground safety improvements to the Fletcher Miller
School to accommodate the many disabled pre-school students
attending the school.

AFTER SCHOOL ARTS PROGRAM
Provides a positive place for children of three "at risk" elementary schools to go after school with the goals of increasing appreciation of art, enhancing behavioral skills, completing projects and learning to respect one another.
PARK AND
PLAYGROUND ENHANCEMENT
The Legacy Foundation helped fund a climbing wall at an
elementary school.
The school's playground also serves as
community park and needs updating. Our funding augmented a
grant provided by Great Outdoors Colorado.
HERITAGE CENTER
FUND
A historic and social center park, Lakewood's Heritage Center
features a look at 20th century lifestyles. Located in beautiful
Belmar Park, the museum currently has over 10 historic structures,
30,000 artifacts preserved, a festival area and outdoor
amphitheater.
