ENHANCING  THE  QUALITY  OF  LIFE  FOR  PEOPLE  IN  LAKEWOOD

LEGACY AND PARTNERS

This is a great program that Lakewood Legacy Foundation established in 2003. We are working with a national clearing house to receive free merchandise with companies have donated for distribution to schools and other non-profit organizations.

The Legacy & Partners program annually distributes over $100,000 worth of merchandise to such organizations as Cenikor, Habitat for Humanity, Laradon Hall, and the Bridgeway Connection.  The merchandise has included paper products, school supplies, office supplies, cleaning supplies, party supplies, clothing, toys, and Christmas decorations.

Useful things.  Nice things.  Things that enhance the quality of life for the people of Lakewood.
So what do we pay? Lakewood Legacy pays $845 annually to subscribe to their service. For that, we get 5 big catalogs a year, showing available merchandise. We also receive special offers between catalogs, plus online offerings through the web site. Our local organizations look through these catalogs and make up wish lists, and we get as much of it for them as we can.

Other organizations around the country are also requesting this merchandise, so we never get everything we ask for, but we always get a substantial amount. For each shipment from the Illinois warehouse, we pay a $99 handling charge and standard UPS shipping rates. The merchandise itself is free.

How do we fund this program?  Local businesses and service clubs sponsor each shipment.  These generous folks include:

Lakewood Elks - The Elks are one of the largest, oldest, and most active service organizations in the world.  The Lakewood lodge is particularly active in supporting Laradon Hall--which is also a frequent beneficiary of Lakewood Legacy!

We call this program "Legacy & Partners" for a reason--we are seeking more partners to help offset our cost.  We will provide promotions to our partners through news articles and information on our web site.

Let us know if we can help!

We welcome inquiries from Lakewood schools and non-profits organizations that would like to participate in the program.  This program has helped many organizations acquire much-needed supplies.  We do require that you not resell the merchandise your receive through this program.  Here's the agreement that we have made with the distributor:

All merchandise received through this program may not be sold, bartered or exchanged (whether at flea markets, garage sales, thrift shops, auctions, raffles or in any other context whatsoever).

Merchandise may not be given to or taken by volunteers, officers, clergy or employees for personal use.  It must be used solely for the care of the ill, needy or minors, pursuant to the member's charitable purposes, as stated in the Internal Revenue Service IRC Code 170 (e)(3).

If you can use the supplies for your organization, though, please contact us--we'd like to help!

Bridgeway and Friends of Paha are among the Lakewood non-profits that benefit from this program.  Click on their names to see what they say about it!
